Fixed braces are a type of orthodontic treatment that consists of brackets bonded to the teeth and connected by an archwire. The brackets apply gentle pressure over time, gradually moving the teeth into their desired position. Unlike removable aligners, fixed braces remain in place throughout treatment, ensuring continuous correction.
What Are Fixed Braces?
Brackets are bonded to each tooth and connected by an archwire.
Gradually shifts teeth into alignment over time.
Treats crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, and crossbites.
Suitable for both teenagers and adults.

Metal braces are the most traditional and widely used form of fixed braces. They are made from high-quality stainless steel, making them highly durable and effective in treating a wide range of orthodontic issues.
Highly Effective: Suitable for mild to severe orthodontic cases, including complex misalignments.
Durable: Made from strong materials that can withstand daily wear and tear.
Cost-Effective: Generally more affordable than ceramic braces.
Faster Treatment Time: Often work slightly faster than ceramic braces due to less friction.
Customisable: Elastic bands come in various colours, allowing personalisation.
More noticeable than ceramic braces.
Some patients find them less aesthetically appealing.
Ceramic braces function in the same way as metal braces but use clear or tooth-coloured brackets, making them less noticeable.
Aesthetic Appeal: Less visible than metal braces, making them a popular choice for older teens and adults.
Effective for Various Cases: Suitable for treating moderate to complex orthodontic issues.
Comfortable: Smoother material reduces irritation to the lips and gums.
More prone to staining if not cleaned properly.
Slightly more expensive than metal braces.
Brackets can be more fragile than metal ones.
May result in slightly longer treatment times due to increased friction.
Both metal and ceramic braces are effective orthodontic solutions, but the choice depends on individual needs and preferences.
Patients of all ages with mild to severe orthodontic issues.
Individuals looking for a cost-effective and highly durable option.
Those who do not mind the visibility of traditional braces.
Younger patients who may benefit from customisable coloured bands.
Teenagers and adults who prefer a more discreet orthodontic treatment.
Individuals with moderate to complex alignment issues.

After graduating from The University of Birmingham in 2005 I moved back to Birmingham to work in general practice. Although I enjoy all aspects of dentistry I have a specialist interest in orthodontics.
I completed the Aesthetic Restorative Course from Central England Referral Centre in 2008 which changed the approach towards dentistry. I completed my Masters in Orthodontics in 2019 from The University of Warwick.
I have been practising Orthodontics for over 10 years now and have experience in many systems. I have been to numerous courses to update my knowledge and skills.
I have been a registered Incognito provider since 2015 and have a lot of experience in Lingual Orthodontics.
Outside of work I have been married for 12 years and have 3 children who keep me well grounded. When given the chance I enjoy running and playing football. I love watching movies to relax and unwind. I am currently learning to play the piano with my daughter.

If you answered YES to the above, then Invisalign, often termed clear or invisible braces, could be the solution for you. We have been using the orthodontic treatment for over a decade which involves wearing custom-made clear aligners to straighten the teeth, that are comfortable and practically invisible hence the name. Both adults and teenagers can now have straight teeth without the need for metal wires or brackets. Many orthodontic problems can be resolved by treatment with clear braces in Birmingham such as buck, crooked, overlapped teeth, gaps between teeth and problems with bite such as overbite and underbite thus improving your biting and chewing efficiency and is therefore likely to enhance the overall health of your teeth.
Here at our Birmingham Dental Practice impressions of your teeth are taken either using a mould or computerized technology which is used to make your individual aligners. Aligners are then worn over the teeth to straighten your teeth into the desired position. The benefits of Invisalign treatment is that there are no interferences with your day to day life because the aligners are removable; you can take them out to eat, drink and to brush your teeth. So now it’s time to get ready for a smile that will transform your appearance.
We have been recognised as having the highest level of experience with Invisalign clear braces in Birmingham by being awarded the Invisalign Platinum Elite Partner status. Also as we provide personalised care and services to our clients by our highly qualified dentist.

Longer finance terms are available up to 5 years at an APR rate of 9.9%.
St Paul’s Square Dental Practice strives to offer its patients transparent and clear fees so that patients can clearly see the cost of any course of treatment.
Private treatment will either be by reference to a fixed fee or may involve the fees being charged by reference to the treatments required/desired and/or the complexity involved. In these circumstances, your dentist will in the first instance provide you with a detailed and transparent quotation as to the work to be carried out.
Fixed dental braces are orthodontic appliances that use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into the correct position. Metal braces use stainless steel brackets, while ceramic braces use tooth-coloured brackets designed to blend more naturally with your smile. Both options are effective for correcting alignment and bite issues.
Metal braces are known for their strength and durability, making them suitable for a wide range of orthodontic cases. Ceramic braces work in a similar way but use clear or tooth-coloured brackets, making them less noticeable. The choice between the two often depends on aesthetic preference and treatment requirements.
Yes, fixed metal and ceramic braces are suitable for both adults and children. They are commonly used to treat overcrowding, spacing, crooked teeth, and bite problems. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient’s age, dental condition, and orthodontic goals.
The duration of treatment varies depending on the complexity of the case. Most patients wear fixed braces for between 12 and 24 months, although some cases may require a shorter or longer timeframe. Regular adjustments help ensure teeth move safely and efficiently throughout treatment.
Suitability for fixed braces is determined during a detailed orthodontic consultation. At this visit, your tooth alignment, bite position, and treatment objectives will be carefully assessed to identify the most appropriate brace option. The expected treatment timeline and anticipated results will also be explained clearly.
If you are considering fixed dental braces in Birmingham, you can request a consultation through our 24/7 online booking system at a convenient time.
