Fixed Traditional Dental Braces
Suitable for everyone Aged over 8. But these braces are especially used for Kids
Traditional straight-wire braces use tiny rubber bands to hold the archwire in place within the brackets. These bands come in different colors and are visible on the braces.
Self-Ligating Braces don’t use rubber bands. Instead, they have special clips built into the brackets themselves to hold the archwire. These braces may not require as many adjustments as straight-wire braces.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dental Braces
What are dental braces used for?
Dental braces are orthodontic appliances used to straighten teeth, correct bite issues, and improve overall alignment. They help address problems such as overcrowding, gaps, crooked teeth, and misaligned bites, improving both the function and appearance of the smile over time.
What types of dental braces are available?
There are several types of dental braces available, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, and clear aligner systems. Each option offers different benefits depending on the level of correction needed, aesthetic preferences and lifestyle considerations. An orthodontic assessment helps determine the most suitable option.
Are dental braces suitable for both adults and children?
Yes, dental braces are suitable for both children and adults. Early orthodontic treatment can help guide jaw development in children, while adults can benefit from braces to improve alignment, bite function and long-term oral health. Treatment plans are tailored to each age group and individual needs.
How long does orthodontic treatment with braces take?
The length of treatment varies depending on the complexity of the case and the type of braces used. Most orthodontic treatments last between 12 and 24 months, although some cases may be shorter or longer. Regular reviews help ensure treatment stays on track and progresses as planned.
How do I find out if dental braces are right for me?
The first step is arranging a comprehensive orthodontic consultation to assess tooth alignment, bite relationship, and overall oral health. During this visit, suitable brace options, expected treatment timelines, and anticipated results will be explained clearly to help you make an informed decision.
If you are considering dental braces in Birmingham, you can book an Orthodontic Consultation through our 24/7 online booking system at a time that suits you.
